Let’s Lose Weight Together
Hello and welcome to my blog! Just as you have, I’ve struggled with losing weight. And being Puerto Rican and eating traditional Hispanic foods doesn’t help. I mean do you know how delicious tostones are with a fried pork chop?!? If you do, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you don’t, I suggest visiting your local Hispanic restaurant and taste away.
It took 3 years of trial and error to get to where I am right now…aside from in front of my computer typing this. I was at 240 pounds and thought, “Welp I guess this is life now. Goodbye summers at the beach! Goodbye walking without losing my breath. Goodbye cute clothes and hello curtain patterns.”
I don’t know about you but I got tired of not feeling good about myself. I got tired of avoiding looking myself in the eyes when I looked in the mirror. I got tired of being tired…metaphorically and physically!
“So where you I start?” you might be asking. Well, I started simply by changing the way I eat and exercising. Now I know that you are supposed to do these simultaneously. But I found that I kept giving up at both because it’s pretty hard to change one habit but to change two was proving impossible.
I stuck to eating healthy with MINIMAL exercise (barely once a week) and I was still losing weight. Maybe not the 3 pound losses I saw other people achieving, but 1 pound was better than none. Once I hit a plateau and felt that I was comfortable enough that I had the food part down, I introduced exercising. That’s when I really started to see results!
So after a year and a half, I’ve gone from 240 pounds and a size 24 down to 175 pounds and a size 14 and I feel great! I am not where I want to be yet but I’m closer than I was yesterday.
This doesn’t mean I know the secret to losing weight…I wish! I’d wrap it up and sell it by the boatloads to retire on a remote island with my dog! I just want to save someone the time of trial and error that I had to find out on my own. I hope you continue to follow me on my weight loss journey.
