Just Another Fad?
Before we get into the Paleo diet benefits, let’s chat a little first. Diets have become something more than just a fad. For many, it has become a way of life. In the last two decades, there has been an explosion of programs. Whether it’s pills, gadgets, or even creams they all promise to help you tighten, tone and trim the weight right off.
Let’s face the truth. We would much rather find a shortcut to lose weight than put the time and effort it requires. Listen…you did not gain it overnight. You cannot expect it to magically disappear in a matter of days. Sure you can starve yourself for a few days and you will likely lose a few pounds. But that will do more harm than good. Your body’s a fine-tuned machine and should be treated as such.
Just because you can’t see that damage being done to your organs doesn’t mean the damage isn’t being done. So why not put the best fuel in your tank to keep your luxury vessel running at optimal performance? You do it for your car right?! Well guess what; you are worth MORE than your car!
What’s so Bad?
If you fill it with garbage, then you will get zero results. Matter of fact, you are now prone to the effects of indulging in these nasty foods. You may have heard of a few of the diseases linked to the consumption of these foods. There’s type II diabetes, heart diseases, autoimmune disorders, and even “The Big C” aka cancer.
This all comes from eating too many of those modern “American” foods that are processed, contain way too much sugar, saturated fats, and refined carbohydrates. It’s only a matter of time before your outside catches up to your insides.
Majority of you have been following my weight loss journey for a while now. You have seen me at my heaviest and know the physical, mental, and emotional toll it can have. Despite what you will be told losing weight is not easy. It takes a lot of dedication and mental preparedness. As you already know, I’ve lost a total of 60 pounds. This is the weight I gained after going through emotional turmoil caused by a divorce. It happens; life has its lessons to be learned.
The most valuable lesson I learned was that although there was no one there to love me anymore, I still had myself. I had to look in the mirror and learn to love myself. That isn’t easy when you don’t like the reflection staring back at you. Now that I have your attention, let’s talk about what we can do to get your body into the shape you want. Honestly, I don’t want to just LOOK good but most importantly FEEL good.
How easy is the Paleo Diet?
Maybe about 2 months ago I had a friend introduce me to Paleo. Of course, my very first thought when I come across yet ANOTHER weight loss program is, “Yay another diet that I can fail at”. It’s like I’m basically already setting myself up for failure.
So she convinced me to get the Paleo Beginner’s Guide which was literally FREE (you pay shipping and handling but it’s less than a Starbucks coffee I promise). I received the book in less than a week and read it completely.
Of course, the first month had its setbacks. For me, that’s pretty normal. There is always an adjustment period when beginning any type of regimen. Just like when you start a new job, you have to learn the ins and outs of the position in order to learn it and get it down to a science. I honestly lost a handful of pounds the first month. I was testing cheat days, which foods I should and should not cheat with and so forth.
How long before I see results?
It’s the 3rd week in my second-month rotation and I’ve lost a total of 10 pounds and one complete pants size! My favorite part of the diet is you don’t spend time counting calories. Once you know what foods to eat and which to stay away from, you won’t need to be a calorie counting monster! I did use a calorie counting app at first, but soon got the hang of it. It’s the easiest plan I’ve come across in a while.
You have to remember that this is a way of life. Unlike other diets, eating the Paleo way focuses on feeding your body the best quality, most sustainably produced and least processed foods possible. Basically, if it comes in a box and has ingredients you can’t pronounce, let alone spell, you probably shouldn’t be eating it now, should you?
